KUALA LUMPUR – Dewan Rakyat green-lights nearly RM8 billion supplementary budget for 2025.
Dewan Rakyat today approved the Supplementary Supply (2025) Bill, authorising the government to draw an extra RM7.94 billion from the Consolidated Fund for additional expenditure this year.
The bill, tabled by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, was passed after its third reading with majority voice support from Members of Parliament.
Under the supplementary allocation:
• RM1.39 billion goes to the Treasury;
• RM5.29 billion will be channelled to statutory funds;
• RM999.9 million is allocated to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living; and
• RM257.6 million is earmarked for the Ministry of Higher Education.
Amir Hamzah told the House that the RM7.94 billion is part of a total extra RM8.4 billion in operating expenditure already incurred in 2025, with another RM472 million set aside for contingent liabilities not debated in Parliament.
The government is also seeking an additional RM990.9 million for development expenditure in 2025. Amir said the supplementary allocations have been fully spent and will not affect the fiscal deficit target of 3.8 per cent set for the year. -MalayaDailyToday
