KUALA LUMPUR – AmBank has expressed serious concern after a video showing a homeless man being splashed with water and kicked outside its Taman Maluri branch went viral on social media.
In a statement today, the banking group said it was “deeply concerned and saddened by what had taken place”, stressing that “no individuals deserve to be treated in that manner.”
AmBank clarified that the security guard seen spraying water on the man was an employee of an external security services provider appointed by the bank.
It added that the individual who kicked the homeless man was believed to be a cobbler who had grown frustrated with the victim.
“Regardless, we expect all personnel representing our bank, including vendors and partners, to uphold the highest professional conduct,” the bank said.
It added that it is fully cooperating with the relevant authorities and is committed to ensuring such incidents do not recur.
The 36-second video, first posted on Reddit, shows the homeless man sleeping on the pavement outside the bank. A security guard then approaches, lifts a nearby hose and sprays water at him, causing him to wake abruptly.
Seconds later, another man approaches, kicks the victim, and then takes over the hose to continue spraying him in an attempt to force him to leave the area. -MalayaDailyToday
