KUALA LUMPUR – The Ministry of Education (MOE) has announced an ambitious target to equip all schools nationwide with smartboards by the year 2027, as part of efforts to boost digital integration and artificial intelligence (AI) adoption within the national education system.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the initiative forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation strategy in education.
“We are optimistic that the goal of equipping all schools in the country with smartboards by 2027 will be achieved,” she said, adding that supporting measures will be in place, including upgrading Teachers’ Activity Centres (PKG) into technology excellence hubs.

Over the next two years, the ministry aims to install smartboards across more than 10,200 schools throughout Malaysia.
Penang has emerged as the first state to achieve full smartboard implementation, with all 396 schools in the state already equipped.
Despite the push for digital tools in the classroom, Fadhlina emphasized that teachers remain at the heart of the education ecosystem.

“Technology can never replace the role of a teacher. Educators are still the key figures in shaping the character, values, and moral compass of our students,” she stressed.
