KUALA LUMPUR – A Malaysian woman was caught attempting to smuggle four gibbons and 52 iguanas in her suitcase from Kuala Lumpur to Chennai, India.
The Chennai Customs Department revealed that the woman was stopped by Air Intelligence Officers at Chennai’s Anna International Airport on Sunday. Both she and the intended recipient of the wildlife have been arrested and are now in remand.
“The exotic animals were given proper care, including food and water, under the guidance of the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) before being sent back to their country of origin. Further investigations are ongoing,” the department said.
