KUALA LUMPUR – The highly anticipated film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), featuring popular Tamil actor Thalapathy Vijay, has finally hit theaters in Malaysia since last Thursday.
The film, which has been distributed in Malaysia by Veedu Production and Five Star Trading (FST), has already made history by earning approximately RM2.3 million through advance ticket sales, just days before its release.
Denes Kumar, the founder and owner of Veedu Production, expressed his excitement and surprise at the overwhelming support and the impressive box office earnings in the country.
He noted that for the first time, a film directed by the renowned South Indian director Venkat Prabhu would be shown in 160 cinemas simultaneously across Malaysia.
“This screening in 160 cinemas is extraordinary and rare. It’s truly amazing and surprising that we’ve already earned millions of ringgit in just a few days due to the popularity of GOAT said Denes. “This success and support reflect a wide appeal across different ethnic communities in Malaysia who are fans of Tamil cinema.”
Denes also revealed that theaters across the country have been packed, with hundreds of screenings scheduled, especially during the weekend.
He added that the latest box office collection would be shared soon after the weekend rush.
According to Denes, GOAT’s success in Malaysia underscores the growing influence of Tamil-language cinema in the country, supported by various segments of the population.
As part of the promotional activities, Veedu and FST organized a special ‘Gala Screening,’ attended by more than 1,000 guests, including local artists, media representatives, industry players, and other stakeholders.
Denes, who is also a popular local Tamil artist, made sure to invite Vijay fan clubs, which received an enthusiastic response.
“The atmosphere at the gala event reflected the excitement surrounding this film, with fans from all over Malaysia, regardless of ethnicity, flocking to the cinemas to watch GOAT. Nearly every cinema is packed, and we are struggling to keep up with the demand,” Denes added.
GOAT; an action film featuring stars like Prashanth Thyagarajan, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, Jayaram, Sneha, Laila, Yogi Babu, and others, began screening in local theaters on September 5, with early morning showings.
One of the local actors, Irfan Zaini, also had the opportunity to play a small role in the film.
