PUTRAJAYA – Datuk Seri R Jeyenderan, Chief Executive Officer of Maritime Network, delivered a memorandum today concerning local maritime sector issues with the Port Klang Authority (LPK), which is alleged to be in a critical state at the moment.
He handed over the memorandum to the Ministry of Transport (MOT) here, hoping that all the issues and challenges faced by industry players would be promptly addressed.
Speaking to MalayaDailyToday, Jeyenderan explained that he had to submit the memorandum to the Minister of Transport, Anthony Loke, as some of his previous efforts did not receive positive responses.
“I hope to receive a positive response after the minister reviews the memorandum I submitted this morning. The issues I have raised are not personal but for the greater good of the maritime industry,” he said.
Due to procedures and facility deficiencies at Port Klang, the country could incur significant losses every month as there are no longer ships docking at the port. Hopefully, my efforts will receive attention, and we can progress as soon as possible,” he added.
Among the contents of the memorandum for Anthony’s attention are:
- The issue of LPK’s reluctance to handle ships larger than 185 meters, despite it being proven feasible before. Proposing the issuance of guidelines to avoid communication problems and increase revenue.
- Constraints on berthing at South Port for large vessels due to lighting problems causing losses. Urging immediate resolution to maximize output and minimize unnecessary expenses.
- Issues with deepening operations at Kurap Port, Klang, resulting in shallower sea levels. Recommending a review of port deepening processes, SOPs, and potential maintenance work.
- Urging LPK to upgrade SOPs, emphasizing the importance of continuous port operation development. Suggesting lawmakers review communication guidelines and policies for ship berthing.
- Expressing concerns as a long-term investor and advocate for port improvements, urging transparency and constructive criticism for the industry’s future.
- Emphasizing the importance of 24/7 international trade operations, considering the constant influx of ships. Highlighting the need for all facilities to meet operational quality and financial investment standards.
- Calling on lawmakers and industry leaders to seek long-term solutions for the prosperity and future of businesses, in line with the industry’s role in generating national wealth and economy.
In the meantime, Jeyenderan revealed that if these issues are not addressed, he would attempt to reach out to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in the future. – MalayaDailyToday
